Dean is a Consultant and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry at the University of Aberdeen Dental School and Hospital. His clinical practice incorporates all aspects of Restorative Dentistry (such as Endodontics, Periodontics, Prosthodontics and Implant Dentistry) and particularly the treatment of patients requiring complex and advanced restorative treatment, including multi-disciplinary care.
Dean qualified in Newcastle in 1996, and after training in general dental practice and various junior hospital jobs, he moved from his native north-east England to Aberdeen for a six month period. He then returned to Tyneside to complete Higher Specialist Training in Restorative Dentistry before returning to the Granite City to take up his consultant appointment in 2006. He was admitted to the Fellowship in Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1999 and obtained a Specialty Fellowship of the same College in 2005. He received his doctorate from Newcastle University in 2008.
His interest in training general dental practitioners and future specialists has seen him lecture widely on various topics throughout the UK and abroad. He is an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh at all levels of postgraduate training.
Dean is enjoying working at 21 Rubislaw Terrace and welcomes private referrals from colleagues, particularly for the placement and restoration of dental implants.
