Preventative Dentistry

For optimum oral health

Modern dentistry focuses on preventive care and we thoroughly embrace this approach by promoting good oral health and detecting problems before they worsen. The addition of fluoride to toothpaste has significantly lowered the incidence of tooth decay and this, combined with a better awareness of dental health, means many of our patients thankfully have little or no experience of the dental disease. Our focus on prevention means we take a minimally invasive approach and in many cases take no direct intervention at all.

However, we are far from being complacent. Today, busy schedules can mean people ‘graze’ on food, rather than eating regular meals and this can subject teeth to a more acidic environment for longer periods of time. Here, at The Dental Practice, Aberdeen, it is our job to educate you about protecting the health of your teeth and gums. This is important as poor oral hygiene can lead to gum disease, which may cause irreversible damage and even tooth loss. Studies have also shown a link between inadequate oral health care and serious conditions such as heart disease and strokes.

During your regular checkups, we assess and monitor your gums, possibly suggest some changes to your oral hygiene routine, and let you know when you should see us again. We may recommend a visit to our hygienist who will remove stubborn deposits to help prevent gum disease, and teach you dental care techniques to improve your overall oral health.
