A lasting solution to gaps in your smile
Dental Implants are a highly effective, long-lasting way to replace missing teeth. They consist of titanium posts that are planted in the jaw bone to act as substitute tooth roots and provide a firm foundation for replacement teeth. They can also be used to support fixed bridges or stabilise dentures.
As well as restoring your smile, dental implants have a number of other benefits including improving eating and speaking ability, helping to prevent shrinkage of the jawbone, avoiding the need to remove a layer of the healthy tooth and enhancing confidence.
During an initial consultation we will ascertain if you are a suitable candidate for implants and if you are, and you decide to go ahead, the treatment process will take place as follows:
- First, the implant is placed in the jaw under local anaesthetic (with sedation if required) and then, over a few months, it will integrate with the bone.
- Once fully embedded and healed, we attach an extension to the firmly positioned implant.
- We then fix the replacement teeth in place. These may be attached permanently (like a crown or bridge) or so they can be removed for cleaning (like a denture). In some situations, it is possible for temporary teeth to be attached to an implant at the same time as they are surgically placed.
