Easing your fears
If you are concerned about seeing us, you are not alone. Plenty of people feel anxious about visiting the dentist, and some suffer from extreme dental anxiety. However, we have seen numerous nervous patients walk through our doors and know how to treat them with a gentle, understanding touch.
Anxiety can take many forms – you may hate the sights, sounds and smells, fear the dentist’s drill or have a specific needle phobia, or you may just feel a little out of control. Whatever your worries, it is a good idea to talk to us so we can work out how best to support you and ensure you receive essential dental treatment. We can help in a variety of ways, such as giving you an appointment first thing in the morning or straight after lunch, so you don’t have to wait for too long and become even more nervous.
We can also offer sedation if you are especially anxious about dental treatment or if your procedure will be complicated. This will relax you to the point where you are happy to accept treatment. The drug, delivered intravenously, has a calming effect. You will experience no loss of consciousness and be able to talk to us throughout the process, but you are likely to remember little of the experience after treatment.
We will always listen carefully to your concerns and take your fears seriously. We are here to help you achieve the best possible dental health and work closely with you to make this a possibility.
